Brit expats in the southern Spanish region of Murcia now have a huge choice of Tesco favourites via a new supermarket chain.
Walking into the new Food Co store in Puerto de Mazarron is now just like the weekly Tesco supermarket shopping back in the UK. The huge, supermarket-style shop itself is the largest in the province, and is now crammed with literally thousands of British foodie favourites due to a deal between Tesco and the store.
British expats from all across the Costa Blanca flocked to the supermarket once the news got out, with literally hundreds of shoppers grabbing favourites including ready-made curries, turkey stuffing, sour cream, British breakfast tea and a massive selection of canned goods. Some 7,500 Tesco products are being stocked, many focused on the upcoming Christmas celebrations with their traditional turkey dinners, Christmas puddings and good, old-fashioned custard. Many of the favourites are from Tesco’s ‘Finest’ range and include cheeses, hams and beer.
The store is open between 9a.m. and 9p.m Monday to Saturday, and more of the Food Co stores featuring Tesco branded products will open all over Spain next year. Meanwhile, the not such good news as regards expat-owned properties in Andalusia was that the number of house sales in the region is falling faster than in any other Spanish region. September’s sales figures fell by 14 per cent, possibly because fewer British expat retirees are arriving due to Brexit uncertainty.
