The British expat owner of the Brexit pub in Canada’s British Columbia state won’t be changing its name any time soon!

Even although Brexit is now imminent, the pub's British owner Martyn Lewis has no plans to change its name as he feels it’s poking fun at British stereotypes. The somewhat controversial theme of the pub wasn’t exactly well-received by Penticton’s expat community when he first opened, but they soon changed their minds once they saw the humour behind the name. Now that Brexit is halfway to some kind of a done deal, he’s determined to continue poking fun at his home country by keeping the name.

The Brexit Pub’s logo is based on London Underground station signs, and the toilet facilities are designed to look exactly like the classic, dark blue British police public call boxes now no longer seen in UK streets. One innovation much-loved by Lewis’s customers is a replica of the famous zebra crossing as shown in the iconic Abbey Road Beatles photographs. As regards the pub’s menu, it’s no surprise to find it’s modelled on typical British pub nosh favourites including bangers and mash and fish and chips.

Oddly, when Lewis first opened his pub, Canadians were the first to really enjoy its concept, whilst angry British expats took to social media and caused controversy. Nowadays, he’s not planning to hold a Brexit party at the end of this month, as Britain’s leaving the EU is not at all what he wants. In an interview with the Canadian news media, he made it clear he would have voted for the UK to remain in the EU.
