Famous British Superhero To Run Across America For Childrens Charities

Three years after he stunned the world with his superhero-costumed spectacular cross-Canada charity run, Jamie McDonald is at it again!

Now known as a real-life superhero after his 5,000 mile dash across Canada during which he raised £250,000 for charities benefiting children, Jamie is now setting out for a mind-boggling run across America. He’s applied for and been granted a one-year visa during which he must complete the run, meaning he’s forced to run a marathon every day or fail. The fact he can do this at all is in itself a miracle as he spent the first nine years of his life battling epilepsy, a rare spinal condition and a poorly-functioning immune system.

Now 31 years old, Jamie has dedicated his life to repaying all the help and kindness he received as a child in and out of hospital. To date, he’s raised half a million sterling for children’s’ hospitals, charities and other causes worldwide, and has been named Fundraiser of the Year by Pride of Britain as well as receiving many other accolades. His recently-founded Superhero Foundation raises money to fund private treatment for children who can’t get desperately needed help via the NHS, and his book, entitled Adventureman – Anyone can be a Superhero, is the story of his life, illustrating his determination to do all he can to help sick children.

His latest cross-America run will start at Washington’s Cape Alava, taking him through 15 states including California, New York, Texas and Tennessee and ending on the seacoast in Maine at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Again, he’ll be running alone without a support team, facing deserts, freezing temperatures and wild animals, and will camp alone every night. This time he’ll be wearing his custom-made Adventureman costume, designed by 10-year old Conor Reddy. His UK fundraising target is set at £250,000, and his US target of one million dollars will be split between his foundation and children’s’ hospitals in every state on his itinerary. British expats are being urged to cheer him on and donate all they can afford.
