L&T Financial Services Launches Digital Sakhi In TN

L&T Financial Services’ (LTFS) ‘Digital Sakhi’, an educational programme aimed at digital financial inclusion of rural women, was launched in two villages of Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu.

“By making rural women the torch-bearers, this commendable programme will not only strengthen the country’s future, but also supplement the Digital India campaign launched by the Government of India,” Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit said after inaugurating the event in the city on Tuesday.

LTFS in association with Sri Aurobindo Society, will train and develop a team of 100 rural women (Digital Sakhis) as digital enablers, who in turn, will train about 40,000 others in using digital modes of payments.

The company has also identified 500 women from trades such as dairy, poultry and goat-rearing, to impart enterprise development training and upskilling.

“This initiative is in line with our belief that a financial inclusion plan in India can be called truly successful only when rural women are a big part of it,” said Sunil Prabhune, Chief Executive-Rural Finance and Group Head-Digital, IT and Analytics, L&T Financial Services.

The company said that it has already trained 200 ‘Digital Sakhis’ in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, who in turn have trained 1.5 lakh people to execute financial transactions using a mobile device.
