USAA And UTSA Athletics Announce Inaugural Military City Collegiate

SAN ANTONIO – USAA, the Official Military Appreciation Partner of UTSA Athletics, and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) are proud to announce the debut of the Military City Collegiate Presented by USAA. The inaugural golf tournament will take place Feb. 23-24, 2026, at the prestigious TPC San Antonio – Canyons Course.

The event will feature a highly competitive field, including 12 universities and individual student-athletes from across the country, totaling more than 65 players. Participating schools for the 2026 tournament include UTSA, Abilene Christian, Central Michigan, DePaul, High Point, Lamar, Middle Tennessee, University of the Incarnate Word, University of Louisiana Monroe, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley, and Western Kentucky.

As the presenting sponsor, USAA’s support is instrumental in establishing a premier competitive environment for collegiate golfers while celebrating San Antonio’s identity as "Military City, USA^®."

"USAA is playing a huge part in sponsoring the event to help us run a college tournament that teams will want to participate in," said UTSA Men’s Golf Coach Matt Wernecke. "All college events need financial backing to run an event worth participating in, and USAA has given us the opportunity to host such an event through this partnership. We are excited about the chance to host alongside USAA and bring a highly competitive college tournament to our own backyard at TPC San Antonio."

The partnership between USAA and UTSA Athletics is rooted in a shared commitment to the military community. Beyond the golf course, USAA sponsors every "Salute to Armed Forces" home game across all UTSA sports, providing enhanced experiences and activations designed to honor military families.

This collaboration also drives significant charitable impact. In 2025, USAA donated $26,650 to the UTSA Center for Military Affiliated Students through the "USAA Points for Patriots" program, which provides a donation for every point scored across all UTSA sports during the athletic calendar year. This program will continue throughout the 2026 season, further supporting those who have sacrificed for the nation.
